ORLANDO, FL
-- September 30, 2009 -- The Emergency Medicine Learning & Resource
Center (EMLRC) was recognized by bioOrlando – an initiative of the
Metro Orlando Economic Development Commission (EDC) aimed at
stimulating the life science and biotechnology industry in the
region -- as a member of the organization’s inaugural class of
“Medical Marker” recipients during the annual Metro Orlando EDC’s
annual Schwartz Innovation Awards on September 17.
The
Medical Marker program is designed to build awareness of the growing
presence of biotech and life science companies in Metro Orlando.
EMLRC, as a leader in the area’s medical simulation community, is at
the forefront of these important changes to the area’s economic
landscape.
EMLRC anticipated the emergence of
simulation-based training in the healthcare environment and invested
nearly $1 million in developing and building one of the nation’s
first Mobile Simulation Laboratory, or SimLab, in 2005. In 2009, in
collaboration with the University of Central Florida, EMLRC
announced the addition of its first Director of Research Simulation,
Eduardo Salas, Ph.D. In this role, Dr. Salas provides guidance and
structure to research initiatives that demonstrate measurable
improvement in the knowledge and skills of emergency care providers.
The Emergency Medicine Learning & Resource
Center (EMLRC) is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting
and advancing emergency medicine, disaster management, pre-hospital
emergency care and public health through the provision of
educational and research programs. The EMLRC provides lifesaving
education for lifesavers.
